BARBARA AMOS BIOGRAPHY
I am an artist who enjoys collaboration and an exchange of ideas. I have created artworks on multicultural issues, civic engagement and environmental concerns. My materials are diverse. My finished works encourage inquiry about our role in the world and the changes that will make it a better place. I like to consider an idea and the situation as the impetus for new directions.
The most recent project, Migration, was completed in June 2017. I was invited to work with an ESL community to empower this age group with questions to address issues around migration. It culminated in a 12×16 foot painting, curriculum development and classroom work.
In 2014 I was honoured with an Arts Advocacy Award from CARFAC. My most recent work is a temporal project about water and engages social media. I have been active as a juror for civic public art, artist run centres, served for 27 years non-profit boards. I have completed 4 public art commissions. I am a graduate of the University of Waterloo and have been awarded scholarships and international residencies. My paintings are in galleries in Toronto and Calgary.
