Born in Swift Current Saskatchewan in 1948, Val’s first recollections of artistic endeavours were making paper dolls and clothes. She followed that by copying the muscle men from the backs of comic books which led her into taking art classes while in high school.
Valerie has always been drawn to painting with oils, although she has ventured into watercolours and acrylics she never felt she could achieve the results she could with oils.
Since she picked up her first paint brush, Valerie has been mostly self-taught. Until recently, that is, when she found a teacher whose realistic style matches her own.
